Husker Du- New Day Rising

A milestone of american hardcore punk. Clearly a starting point of anything "pop-punk", but don't let that dreaded moniker fool you into thinking this is some watered down Green Day fare. While this record certainly contains the pure melodicism of their later work, it does so without sacrificing any of the relentless ferocity of their early records. The best album of their careers and one of the best albums of the decade.

The last album. By this point the relationship between Pierce and Kember was so frayed that they clouldn't enter the studio together. As a result this is two albums, with each artist taking up a side. Amon Duul II- Yeti

Amon Duul II were on the outer fringes of the already outer fringe scene of late 60's early 70's german experimental rock (aka krautrock). This is some of the most out there druggy free-kraut-improv-psych ever recorded. I'm guessing these people were on some shit that gets you in touch with some other shit, if you know what i'm saying. Makes King Crimson sound like Stars of The Lid.

Striborg- Autumnal Melancholy

Aptly dubbed "The Black-Metal Jandek", Striborg has spent much of the last decade self-recording his own albums from his seclusion deep in the Tasmanian forests. The songs alternate between burzumic atmospheric pieces, and worded fair typically consisting of home recorded drums and guitar and his signature high pitched croak. AmateurishIy recorded with a seemingly early Mountain Goats inspired buzz covering everything. Imangine Gollum singing misanthropic dirges from deep under his mountain, disturbing stuff indeed. Extremely fucked-up brilliance.

Year of No Light- Nord

Year of No Light are a post-metal band from where else? France. These guys definitely wear their influences on their sleeves, as it were. When you first listen to it you'll be convinced it's Isis (albeit with some Neurosis and a touch of converge thrown in. a couple nods to Jesu perhaps) In this case, that is definitely a good thing. This album full of incredible builds, super heavy dirge riffs, and impassioned vocal workouts blended flawlessly with neurosis like ambience, and soaring guitar melodies. And all of it done at such a high level of skill that "Nord" Clearly stands toe-to-toe with the best work it's predecessors have done. A new album is long overdue

If your answer to the previous question is no, then I have a rare treat for you. This saucer of pure audio diarrea would sound something like a cross between Godflesh, Sunn0))) and Hawkwind, if those bands consisted entirely of autistic eight-year olds on heroin. Home recorded Lo-fi retard space-sludge with cave man vocals possibly recorded in an actual cave. I would kill to see this guy land a spot on "american-idol".
